Stumbled across a new (to me) blog today. "When a website goes offline, its domain name is usually sold off to another company, often a competitor. The competitor then directs traffic going to the defunct site to its own site. I read the other day that the band The Unicorns broke up. I don't think I've ever heard their music, but I've heard them talked about and have always liked their name. So I started thinking about band names being traded like extinct web domains. What if The Unicorns sold their name, record deal, and touring schedule to another group of musicians? Would fans and album sales continue to come in and eventually trickle off as people caught on to the hoodwink?"
Interesting idea. Experiment, anyone?
